6ft tall abstract color field painting by Laurie Berger. Inspired by summer weekends in nature and the desire to release inhibitions. For this painting, I channeled the bright shock and frigid bliss of entering a cold pool of ice melt in the California mountains.

“Dichotomy” abstract expressionist painting by Laurie Berger.
Painted to bring vibrant color and a little chaos to its otherwise very pleasant intended space, I used large brushstrokes and energetic mark making to represent opposing forces — a sort of yin yang struggle.
Acrylic on raw, unprimed, hand-stretched canvas, 48”×48” , 2025
My second mural commission for x2o Studio, this time a 27ft wide mural for their second Bay Area location in Danville, California.
This mural was intended to feel like a sister to the first mural in their Los Gatos studio — inspired by the same energy and sentiment of physical progress, but with a new color palette and composition, which includes an abstract pumping heart.
We view the x2o Studio murals as an extension of their brand — the mural creates an uplifting mood for their pilates classes IRL and also features as an identifying visual in their social media.
A video detailing the mural painting process can be viewed on my Instagram.

Painted to represent a fantasy.
Abstract painting on upcycled, faded vintage tapestry by Laurie Berger depicting champagne and oysters, imagining it for the future dining room of my dreams.
Painted while anxiously waiting to see if our accepted offer on an old fixer upper house would be confirmed in probate court, where it would be open to competing bids by developers. At the time of painting, we were moving out of our apartment. Luckily, after a six month roller coaster of emotions, we got the house! I spent much of the following 10 months restoring and making habitable this grand old home in Los Angeles, where it now hangs. A perfect pairing, the tapestry and house — two old, once-glamorous souls, dusty and long ignored, brought back to life and loved again.

Channeling a calm formalism with a more restrained palette than I usually allow myself, the color is there when you look for it, within the brush strokes from mixing up neutrals (see detail photos).

Abstract flower painting commission for private residence in Morgan Hill, California.
The Anthony-Grunbaum family was looking for a painting with restrained palette for their new home and requested that the painting somehow incorporate “5”, to represent their family. I created a color palette based on their living room environment, and after determining that they liked my Wild Nasturtiums painting and preferred blended brushstrokes, I created an adaptation of this floral painting with five abstract flowers — two representing the parents, and three representing their young children. The aim was for a loving representation of their family, with some drips, abstraction, and the restrained palette keeping the painting complex, layered, and interesting.
