Laurie specializes in paintings, murals, illustration, brand identity design, creative packaging design and illustrative prints. She received her BA in Art from UCLA and her design work is informed by her foundation in art with an expertise in color and composition.
Laurie’s painting practice is an intuitive exploration of color and composition that hovers between abstract and figurative styles. Building layers of depth on canvases and found objects, often at large scale, she uses her instincts for color and aesthetic balance to create interest and forge paths forward in paint and oil pastel. The final composition reveals her process and intentions within its details. Using washes, brushstrokes and gestural mark making, Laurie’s artwork brings to life not only her subject matter but a state of mind; emotional, energetic, and thoughtful.
From incorporating environmental elements to working at specific sizes, Laurie enjoys creating inspired custom paintings and murals for businesses and homes. When working with Laurie on painting and mural commissions, she meets with clients via Zoom or IRL to establish a purpose for the work and desired feelings for the artwork to embody and elicit. Utilizing both her art and design expertise, Laurie uses photo mockups for her presentations to align with clients and ultimately create a successful work of art that summons its intended feelings in a space.
Laurie incorporates drawing by hand into much of her work, from paintings to brand identity. Whether illustrating digitally or with pen and oil pastel, Laurie enjoys a loose, free spirited style of drawing that lends personality to any project. You can find her illustration work printed on Fortune 500 CPG, the sides of buildings, and beloved t-shirts and tote bags around the world.
Laurie designs bold and colorful branding and packaging that inspires target audiences and leads categories. She works with brands and agencies on a freelance basis. Before launching Lauren Jane Studio in 2018, she designed in-house for fashion and tech businesses, most recently as a Senior Designer at Pinterest, where she art directed and designed strategic creative campaigns and partnerships with global brands.
When she isn’t creating art and design work, Laurie enjoys playing tennis and illustrating 1970s-inspired fabric prints and branding for Laurel Canyon Tennis Club, an LA-made cut and sew apparel brand she cofounded with her friend of nearly two decades in 2021. Laurel Canyon Tennis Club created a new counterculture subcategory within the conventional world of tennis apparel and its boring mass market options. This project provides the enormous experience of running and marketing a niche e-comm and wholesale business, giving Laurie valuable knowledge and insight into her branding clients’ minds beyond aesthetics.
