Signed illustration of the Robin Williams Tunnel in Sausalito, California. Inspired by a 1974 photograph of the tunnel gifted to me by my brother as well as five years of commuting through this tunnel in my twenties, it would always brighten my morning to drive out of the San Francisco fog and into the Sausalito sunshine beneath this whimsical rainbow, and I wanted to pay tribute to it as a lesser known Bay Area icon.
Originally known as “Waldo Tunnel,” the painted rainbow arches debuted in 1970 to mixed reactions in the San Francisco Chronicle. Fortunately, its colorful California aesthetic persisted and continues to welcome everyone from San Francisco’s foggy Golden Gate Bridge into Marin’s sunny skies. Available in 8x10” and 11x14.”
