Abstract painting on upcycled, faded vintage tapestry by Lauren Jane Berger depicting champagne and oysters, imagining it for the future dining room of my dreams.
Painted in April 2023 while anxiously waiting to see if our accepted offer on an old fixer upper house would be confirmed in probate court in downtown LA, where it would be open to competing bids by developers. At the time of painting, we were moving out of our apartment in order to put it up for sale, as that would be necessary to purchase the house, despite the lack of guarantee we’d get it. Luckily, after a roller coaster of emotions (including a delayed hearing I’d driven nine hours to attend), we got the house in July! I spent much of 2023 and 2024 personally restoring and making habitable this grand old home in Los Angeles, where it now hangs. A perfect pairing, the tapestry and house — two old, once-glamorous souls, dusty and long ignored, brought back to life and loved again.
